In Leader Mentoring: Find, Inspire and Cultivate Great Leaders, Michael Shenkman makes the case that mentoring differs from instruction, teaching, and coaching in that it emphasizes not talents and skills used in executing a project but the qualities and values of life that are needed to sustain oneself in the creative endeavor. "No mentors, no leaders," he says, adding, "I want my new book to strongly advocate for leader mentoring as an essential, premium developmental service that aspiring leaders and their sponsors, bosses and partners need to invest in."

Big Changes at Arch of Leadership!

Big changes are coming to the Arch of Leadership during the next few months. Here are the headlines:
1. Michael’s new book will be published this Spring. It’s called Leader Mentoring: Find, Inspire and Cultivate Great Leaders. The book's publisher Career Press has done a wonderful job of producing a handsome and readable product that will spark new interest in our work.
2. We have a new leader mentor who is advancing our work in Silicon Valley. Billie Spell, a former senior leader at Covad Communications, is a graduate of the first and second Arch programs who is incorporating this work in her new and independent venture, Creative Business Ecologies.
3. In May, we will be hosting a four-part breakfast series in Santa Clara, CA entitled, “Leader Mentoring: The Breakthrough Resource.” The first session is scheduled for May 22, 2008. Michael will kick off the series with an introduction to our core concept of professional leader mentoring. Other sessions will feature Billie’s account of her mentoring experiences, a panel presentation on the Arch process, and a special guest appearance by Charles Hoffman, CEO, Covad Communications. 4. Check out our new website at www.leadermentoring.com. In the coming months this will be the new web-based home of our work. Our former website will be completely accessible through links from this site. All our information therefore is now available at the new site, including the registration form for the Breakfast Series. Click the link and take a tour!
